The first product from the IMBS process is a reduced powder which is beneficiated by magnetic separation to remove excess carbon and gangue. While some beneficiation occurs in this stage, the quality of the final product (in terms of contained impurities and potentially undesirable elements) is largely determined by the quality of the input ore.

However, a high degree of metallisation (≥80%) of the contained Fe in the feed ore can be expected in the product.
